Can you provide advice on market trends and salary benchmarks?
UK legal hiring in 2026 is becoming more targeted and skills-led, with organisations prioritising specialist legal expertise and proven experience.
Key factors shaping hiring include:
Regulatory complexity – increasing demand for lawyers with expertise in compliance, governance and risk
Shift to in-house teams – more organisations are building internal legal capability rather than relying solely on external firms
Specialisation over generalists – firms are focusing on hiring lawyers with deep expertise in specific practice areas
Flexible hiring models – continued use of interim and contract lawyers to manage workload and deliver on projects.
Regional demand concentration – continued demand in major legal hubs like London, where organisations are competing for highly specialised legal talent across financial services, commerce and private practice.
As a result, demand remains strongest for experienced legal professionals who can add immediate value, support business strategy and adapt to changing client and organisational needs.
If you’d like to discuss how these trends are impacting your hiring plans, you can speak to one of our legal recruitment specialists.
