So you want to be a treasury analyst

Treasury analyst jobs offer treasurers at the junior level an excellent opportunity to develop business partnering and analysis skills.

Treasury roles are popular because they incorporate an opportunity to work independently and typically provide exposure to senior stakeholders, such as the Group Financial Controller.

So although reconciling and closing are a key part of the job, it is also about looking at the business and making informed judgements and predictions about the market. We look at what you’ll need to secure this sought-after role.

Are there many treasury analyst jobs available?

Treasury analyst jobs offer treasurers at the junior level an excellent opportunity to develop business partnering and analysis skills.

With pockets of growth, we are seeing more treasury analyst opportunities become available. Most vacancies have mainly been due to companies looking to fill experience gaps within teams. Employers are currently looking to maximise their investments.

What will I be doing in this role?

Although the job will vary depending on the organisation, your main responsibilities will include cash flow and monitoring, along with cash and bank administration. As part of this, you will be having constant meetings with stakeholders and develop an in-depth understanding of the Group’s cash flows. You will then be using this information to produce accurate cash forecasts over the short and medium term.

You’ll need to be confident enough to make informed cash flow decisions

You will need to be able to independently consider the cash management options available to the Group and make sure they are worked hard for the business. You will need to provide clear explanations of variances when monitoring actual cash flow against banking covenants.

Need-to-have skills

To secure a treasury analyst job, strong data manipulation and analytical skills are essential. You’ll also need to be very confident when dealing with colleagues across the business and be able to articulate your findings without the same level of technical understanding as you.
