Senior Data Engineer

Contract Senior Data Engineer (Outside IR35) * Duration: 6 Months * Location: 2 days p/w on-site in Cheshire * Rate: £500 – £550 per day (Dependent on Fabric expertise) We need a hands-on Contract Senior Data Engineer to design and build robust, scalable, and integrated data models powered by our Data Platform to empower data-driven decisions.

Senior Data Engineer Key Deliverables

• Data Modelling & Pipelines: Build and optimize ELT pipelines, star schemas, and dimensional models to provide clean, tested, and transformed data.
• Analytics Delivery: Create impactful data products, semantic models, and dashboards using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
• Data Quality & Performance: Monitor and maintain existing data pipelines, investigate data quality anomalies, and perform DAX/tabular model tuning.
• Stakeholder Translation: Bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders, using data storytelling to make insights actionable.

Skills Required

• Microsoft Fabric: Proven commercial experience designing ELT pipelines via Fabric data pipelines and Spark notebooks.
• BI & Visualisation: Expert-level Power BI (DAX, semantic modelling, dashboard design, and performance tuning).
• Core Languages: Strong T-SQL skills and basic-to-intermediate Python coding capabilities.
• Engineering Best Practices: Experience building robust star schemas and dimensional data assets.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to manage deliverables within set deadlines.
