A leading law firm is seeking a highly experienced Contract Senior Paralegal to join their renowned Public Inquiries, Inquests and Public Law team on a contract basis.

This opportunity offers you the chance to work at the heart of complex public law matters, supporting high-profile inquiries and inquests that shape the legal landscape. You will be part of a supportive and inclusive environment where your expertise will be valued, and your professional growth encouraged through comprehensive training on advanced legal platforms and tools. The role is based in London, requiring full-time office attendance, and is ideal for candidates who are immediately available and eager to make a meaningful impact within a collaborative team. If you are passionate about public law, thrive in communal settings, and want to contribute to significant legal proceedings, this is an exceptional opportunity to advance your career.

What you'll do:

As a Contract Senior Paralegal – Public Inquiries, Inquests and Public Law, you will immerse yourself in the day-to-day operations of a dynamic legal team handling some of the most sensitive public law matters. Your responsibilities will span from reviewing complex evidence using cutting-edge e-disclosure platforms to advising on key contractual terms through AI-powered tools. You will play an integral role in preparing documentation for hearings, collaborating closely with counsel and solicitors on restriction orders, and ensuring all elements of evidence gathering are meticulously managed. Success in this role requires you to be detail-oriented, responsive to direction yet proactive in developing effective ways of working. Your ability to communicate progress clearly with fee earners and stakeholders will be crucial as you help drive forward major inquiries that have national significance. This position offers you the chance to build strong interpersonal connections within a knowledgeable network while contributing meaningfully to communal goals.

  • Develop an understanding of intricate issues by reviewing and categorising a wide range of evidence and contracts related to public inquiries.
  • Utilise e-disclosure platforms and specialised systems to implement relevance and redaction policies, providing disclosure to relevant stakeholders with accuracy.
  • Apply AI contract review tools alongside your legal expertise to identify key contract terms and themes, advising fee earners on critical points.
  • Take detailed instructions from fee earners within the team while providing regular progress updates to ensure transparency and effective communication.
  • Instruct Counsel on pivotal matters related to ongoing inquiries, facilitating smooth collaboration between all parties involved.
  • Assist with all aspects of evidence gathering, collation, and publication including document review, tagging, and creation of e-bundles for witness evidence.
  • Handle Restriction Orders by liaising closely with counsel and solicitors regarding applications to restrict evidence, applying redactions as required.
  • Coordinate arrangements for hearings by liaising with courts and core participants, creating bundles, attending hearings, and managing follow-up tasks.
  • Support the team in maintaining compliance with disclosure requirements while adapting quickly to evolving priorities within fast-moving cases.

What you bring:

To excel as a Contract Senior Paralegal – Public Inquiries, Inquests and Public Law, you bring proven experience managing caseloads independently alongside a solid academic foundation in law. Your familiarity with public law concepts equips you for the nuanced challenges inherent in this field. You demonstrate resilience when faced with demanding workloads and possess the flexibility needed for communal success. Your attention to detail ensures accuracy across all tasks—from document review through evidence collation—while your organisational skills allow you to juggle multiple priorities efficiently. Experience with case management systems or e-disclosure platforms is advantageous but not mandatory; what matters most is your eagerness to learn new technologies through comprehensive training. Above all, your ability to connect empathetically with colleagues fosters an inclusive atmosphere where everyone’s contributions are valued. Your commitment to sharing knowledge supports both individual growth and collective achievement within this knowledgeable network.

  • A UK Qualifying Law Degree (GDL or LLB) with commendation or 2:1 or higher demonstrates your academic commitment to legal excellence.
  • At least 12 months’ paralegal experience managing caseloads independently ensures you can handle complex investigations confidently.
  • A basic understanding of public law concepts including challenges and remedies allows you to navigate nuanced legal issues effectively.
  • Previous experience working on public inquiries is desirable but not essential; willingness to learn is highly valued.
  • Accuracy combined with good organisational skills enables you to manage multiple projects concurrently under pressure.
  • Resilience and flexibility empower you to adapt quickly within communal environments focused on shared objectives.
  • Experience using case management systems or e-disclosure platforms such as Relativity is desirable but not essential; full training provided.
  • Proven ability to prioritise work from various stakeholders ensures dependable delivery across diverse tasks.
  • A strong team-player mindset means you collaborate well with colleagues from varied backgrounds towards achieving collective goals.
  • Willingness both to take direction from others and use your own initiative fosters effective ways of working within supportive leadership structures.
