Forensics Investigation 12 month FTC
12-month fixed-term opportunity offering a salary of £40,000 for 30 hours per week across four days, based in the office in South West London, supporting specialist digital forensic investigations within a highly technical and collaborative environment.
An opportunity has arisen for a Digital Forensic Investigator to join a specialist investigations team supporting complex digital forensic examinations and investigations. The role will involve the forensic acquisition, preservation, examination and analysis of digital devices to criminal evidential standards, supporting investigations into intellectual property and digital media offences.
Working within a small, collaborative team, you will liaise with internal investigators, external law enforcement agencies and partner organisations, producing forensic reports suitable for evidential purposes and maintaining the highest standards of forensic integrity throughout the investigation lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct forensic acquisition, preservation and examination of digital devices in accordance with recognised forensic methodologies and best practice.
- Analyse digital evidence and produce clear, structured forensic reports suitable for investigative and legal proceedings.
- Maintain evidential continuity, chain of custody and exhibit handling procedures throughout all investigations.
- Support investigations by providing technical advice, forensic strategies and digital evidence interpretation.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, partner organisations and internal stakeholders throughout investigations.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, devices and forensic methodologies.
- Contribute to laboratory quality processes and support compliance with recognised forensic quality standards, including ISO 17025.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Key Requirements
- Experience conducting digital forensic examinations of computers, mobile devices and digital media.
- Hands-on experience with industry-standard forensic tools such as Cellebrite, EnCase, X-Ways, Nuix, FTK or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of digital evidence handling, forensic acquisition, chain of custody and exhibit management.
- Experience producing forensic reports to criminal evidential standards.
- Knowledge of UK legislation relating to digital investigations, including legislation such as PACE, CPIA, RIPA, IPA, the Computer Misuse Act and Data Protection legislation.
- Excellent analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience within law enforcement, digital forensic consultancy or a comparable investigative environment would be advantageous.
- Exposure to ISO 17025 accredited environments or forensic quality management processes would be beneficial.
