Head of conflicts
A prestigious global law firm is seeking a Head of Conflicts to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of its risk and compliance function. Role responsibilities:
- Lead the successful delivery of a significant project aimed at improving internal conflicts processes and procedures, particularly in relation to the firm's migration to IntApp Cloud.
- Identify potential conflicts of interest and confidentiality issues arising from client matters, lateral hires, or mergers, ensuring timely resolution in line with professional standards.
- Draft waivers and consent language required for resolving conflicts of interest or confidentiality concerns, updating relevant provisions in the firm's Terms of Business as necessary.
- Conduct comprehensive gap analyses to assess current conflicts procedures against best practice benchmarks and regulatory expectations.
- Develop and update internal policies relating to conflicts of interest, ensuring they remain current with evolving legal requirements and industry standards.
- Provide engaging training sessions for partners and staff globally on conflicts management and confidentiality protocols, fostering awareness and understanding across all levels.
- Regularly report on conflicts-related issues to senior management, the Conflicts Committee, and other key stakeholders within the organisation.
- Build up and lead a team of conflicts analysts over the next two to three years, offering ongoing mentorship, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee internal investigations or queries involving conflict of interest or confidentiality matters, collaborating closely with legal specialists where appropriate.
- Supervise those currently responsible for running conflict checks, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established procedures.
Requirements:
- Ideally qualified as a lawyer with substantial experience in conflict management within an international law firm setting.
- Possess at least ten years’ experience as a Conflicts Lawyer or equivalent role focused on risk management in complex legal environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage people effectively—including recruiting, mentoring, supervising performance, and supporting professional growth within your team.
- Outstanding communication skills enabling you to explain complex concepts clearly when negotiating solutions or delivering training across diverse audiences.
