Quality Engineer
An opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join an established manufacturing business near Poynton who are keen to strengthen their quality team as workload continues to grow.
A leading manufacturer of high-precision assembly systems near Poynton is seeking a Quality Engineer to join their dedicated team, offering a competitive salary of £45,000 - £50,000 p/a. This role provides you with the opportunity to make a significant impact by promoting best practices and driving continuous improvement across the site, ensuring quality assurance standards are met, supporting both regulatory and customer requirements and collaborating closely with customers and suppliers. If you are passionate about quality and eager to contribute to a supportive environment where your expertise will be recognised and nurtured, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
What you'll do:
Joining a small team of existing engineers and inspectors, you will play a pivotal role in upholding high standards of quality assurance throughout the manufacturing process. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve preparing for and leading customer assessments or audits, conducting thorough internal and supplier audits, maintaining essential QMS records, contributing to design reviews, spearheading quality improvement activities, managing customer returns efficiently, recording key data for business improvements, establishing robust verification processes for hardware inspection, maintaining supplier lists, participating in advanced product quality planning activities such as PFMEAs and control plans, overseeing calibration processes, certifying product releases and occasionally supporting quality control inspection tasks. Success in this role requires attention to detail, effective communication with stakeholders at all levels and a commitment to driving continuous improvement across all aspects of quality assurance.
- Assist with preparation and lead customer assessments or audits, ensuring all requirements are thoroughly addressed and documented.
- Conduct internal and supplier audits from initial planning through to close out, guaranteeing robust business processes that meet industry standards.
- Support the maintenance and upkeep of QMS records, revising approved quality plans and procedures as needed to reflect changing requirements.
- Contribute actively to design review processes, ensuring products are fit for purpose while deploying improvement activity tools when necessary.
- Lead or participate in company or customer quality improvement activities, fostering a culture of continuous enhancement throughout the organisation.
- Initiate, facilitate, manage, and validate root cause analysis as well as corrective and preventative actions arising from audit NCRs, customer returns, concession requests, and rework.
- Manage liability customer returns efficiently from receipt back to completion with associated reports delivered in a timely manner.
- Record and circulate appropriate data to support business improvement activities for the benefit of customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Establish verification and validation processes for inspection and acceptance of hardware including both supplier-delivered products and manufactured items.
- Maintain the approved supplier list by responding to supplier CARs and implementing process improvements as required.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Quality Engineer position will bring proven experience in quality assurance, with a strong background in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation, using a range of proven quality tools and methodologies to work with production and other departments to contain and correct issues identified internally or by the customer. You’ll also need to demonstrate previous instances where you have assisted with internal audits (ideally auditor trained / qualified) and worked in a manufacturing environment where you have worked to regulated standards such as IATF, AS9100 or similar.
The hiring manager is keen to hear from people who can demonstrate at interview clear and concise communication skills, that can be applied to a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority, and an eye for written detail that has been applied to the production and release of critical quality documentation in previous roles. A huge bonus would be someone who has progressed into quality engineering via shop-floor or inspection, so that they have a familiarity with manual inspection tools and processes.
