Compliance officer
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Compliance Officer to join a highly respected international law firm in London, renowned for its sector-focused expertise across energy, infrastructure, and transport. Role responsbilities:
- Review new client and matter requests meticulously to ensure all necessary information is provided in line with regulatory requirements, liaising thoughtfully with fee earners to obtain outstanding details.
- Analyse conflict check requests thoroughly to identify potential legal or commercial conflicts, collaborating closely with partners to resolve any issues identified.
- Conduct PEP (Politically Exposed Persons), sanctions, and background checks as required, offering clear guidance to fee earners on how to interpret and navigate results.
- Provide insightful advice on escrow agreements from a compliance perspective, ensuring all relevant standards are met before proceeding.
- Maintain various registers including those related to process agency matters, gifts and hospitality, data protection, PEPs, and enhanced risk matters with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Respond promptly to ad hoc queries from colleagues across the business, delivering practical solutions in a timely manner.
- Deliver engaging training sessions to raise awareness of compliance obligations throughout the firm
- Support the wider team by contributing actively to ongoing and ad hoc compliance projects such as insurance renewals, practising certificate renewals, IT upgrades, or tasks associated with opening new offices.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in anti-money laundering policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance within a professional services or legal environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidance issued by law societies or bar associations.
- Proven track record of performing customer due diligence (CDD) checks on both entities and individuals—ideally gained within a law firm setting.
- Exceptional organisational skills paired with meticulous attention to detail when handling sensitive information or managing competing deadlines.
- Ability to work dependably both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team structure.
