What you'll do:
As a Commercial Lawyer In-House Risk based in London, you will immerse yourself in a diverse array of responsibilities that span drafting intricate agreements to advising senior partners on complex contractual matters. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with colleagues from multiple departments, ranging from Finance to Information Security, ensuring that all client-facing documents meet rigorous ethical standards while aligning with internal policies. You will play an integral role in identifying potential risks within contracts and devising pragmatic solutions that protect both the firm’s interests and its clients’ needs. By managing templates, playbooks, and process documentation, you will help drive operational excellence within the Risk function. Additionally, your ability to respond effectively to compliance audits will reinforce the firm’s reputation for diligence. Supervising administrative staff will allow you to foster teamwork within the department while sharing knowledge across borders. Ultimately, your success in this role will be measured by your capacity to deliver accurate advice under pressure while maintaining open lines of communication with stakeholders at every level.
* Work across a broad spectrum of legal, ethical, business, and strategic issues to provide comprehensive support to the global Risk team.
* Draft and negotiate complex client-facing agreements for various business sectors and types of representations, ensuring clarity and compliance at every stage.
* Ensure all client contracts adhere to applicable ethical standards as well as internal policy requirements by conducting thorough reviews and providing guidance.
* Identify, evaluate, and mitigate business and legal risks within client contracts while supporting the achievement of broader business objectives.
* Advise partners on client agreements, contractual requirements, and commercial or business-related requests through clear communication and practical solutions.
* Draft, manage, and update agreements, templates, external communications, playbooks, and processes to streamline contract management workflows.
* Assist in preparing responses to client compliance audits and risk-related inquiries by gathering information from relevant stakeholders across the firm.
* Increase efficiency and scalability of commercial legal support by developing best practices for the in-house global Risk team.
* Supervise administrative staff within the global Risk team by providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
* Collaborate with business partners across Finance, Business Development, Information Security, Inclusion & Culture, as well as other lawyers on the global Risk team.
What you will bring:
* Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts within a leading law firm or comparable in-house environment.
* Meticulous attention to detail combined with a commitment to delivering work of the highest accuracy under tight deadlines.
* Proven project management skills enabling you to prioritise tasks efficiently in a rapidly-evolving setting without compromising quality.
* Sound judgement when making risk-based assessments alongside an aptitude for problem-solving amid ambiguity or incomplete information.
* A proactive attitude marked by enthusiasm for taking initiative on new challenges as they arise within the team context.
* High degree of accountability coupled with strong organisational skills that ensure consistent follow-through on commitments.
* England & Wales qualified solicitor status with at least four years of post-qualification experience gained at a peer law firm or equivalent in-house role. Applicants with less experience who meet the role's technical requirements will be considered.
