Sustaining a mission-critical access platform across 100-plus integrated systems
Introduction
We delivered continuous quality assurance and testing capability on a mission-critical access management platform at a major global commodities business. We supported a sustained programme of development and a significant platform extension to a newly created entity.
The challenge
The organisation operates a complex, highly integrated application ecosystem supporting commodities trading across multiple global locations and functions. At the centre of this ecosystem sits an access management platform governing user roles and permissions across more than 100 connected systems. This covers trading, finance, HR, and compliance. Any failure in this platform directly prevents users from accessing the systems they depend on. Maintaining quality across a continuous two-week sprint cycle was demanding in itself. Simultaneously replicating the platform for a newly created standalone business, with its own distinct set of approximately 57 applications, required additional rigour and coordination.
The solution
We delivered functional, regression, and smoke testing across every sprint cycle, committing to a defined set of deliverables within each two-week window. Test scripts were developed and maintained using Azure DevOps. End-to-end integration between the access management platform and connected systems was validated. Role and permission testing also ensured user access was correctly governed across the full application landscape. The testing effort for the platform extension to the new standalone entity was led as a separate workstream, with its own requirements and release schedule.
The benefit delivered
The platform has maintained a near bug-free release record throughout our engagement, with an average of one production release per month delivered consistently. The extension to the new standalone business was successfully completed, replicating the platform across a new environment with 57 applications. Our testing capability has ensured that a business-critical system remains stable and reliable. It protects the ability of users across multiple global locations to access the systems underpinning the organisation's trading operations.
