Enabling a product-led platform to support multiple government services simultaneously
Introduction
We supported the design and delivery of product-aligned platform capabilities for a nationally critical government digital programme. Our work enabled multiple consuming teams to build and integrate independently, without creating dependency on a central platform team.
The challenge
The programme was transitioning to a product-led delivery model. Shared platforms were required to support multiple consuming teams simultaneously, covering application, data, and integration workstreams. Without the right foundations, shared platforms risked becoming bottlenecks rather than enablers. The programme needed integration patterns, developer tooling, and onboarding frameworks that would allow teams to move at pace without compromising platform stability or governance.
The solution
We worked closely with product and architecture leadership to design platform services as reusable product components. We delivered a product-oriented platform roadmap aligned to the needs of consuming teams. We built developer experience and onboarding frameworks, and created sandbox and playground environments to enable safe experimentation. We defined integration patterns supporting multiple downstream products. Throughout, we balanced platform governance with developer autonomy, enabling fast onboarding through clear documentation and tooling.
The benefit delivered
Adoption of shared platform services accelerated across consuming teams. Friction between platform and product teams was reduced. Developer productivity and confidence improved. The platform transitioned from a potential constraint into a recognised enabler, supporting the programme's broader shift to a product-led delivery model.
