Automating a 50-application migration to protect speed and accuracy
Introduction
For a major commodities group, we designed and built a bespoke automation tool to support a large-scale application migration programme. This enabled multiple teams across a global organisation to execute the transition faster and with far greater accuracy.
The challenge
Following a strategic decision to create a new standalone business from an existing division, the organisation faced the challenge of migrating more than 50 applications to a new environment. Manual migration at that scale carried significant risk. It involved high effort, inconsistent execution across teams, and the real possibility of configuration errors that could destabilise live systems. A smarter approach was needed.
The solution
We developed a custom automation tool to power the migration. It was built not just for one workstream but adopted across all teams involved in the programme. The tool standardised the migration process, removing reliance on manual configuration. It gave every team a consistent, repeatable approach to moving applications across environments.
The benefit delivered
The automation tool substantially reduced the total hours estimated across the various migration teams. It also eliminated the configuration errors a manual approach would have introduced. This reduced rework risk and protected the integrity of the new environment throughout the programme.
