Sales Ledger and Credit Controller

Sales Ledger/Credit Control - Based in Milton Keynes £30,000 - £40,000 depending on experience

Robert Walters are working with a leading organisation in Milton Keynes to recruit a Sales Ledger & Credit Controller to take ownership of a substantial sales ledger and ensure efficient debt collection, accurate ledger maintenance and strong customer relationships.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative finance team, working closely with Finance, HR, Sales and Operations.

What you'll do

• Take full responsibility for the sales ledger, ensuring cash receipts are posted accurately and accounts remain up to date.
• Manage the collection of outstanding debts via telephone and email, maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
• Generate customer statements and reminder letters to support timely payment.
• Review customer credit limits, payment terms, new account applications and credit checks.
• Review and release orders on hold following assessment of customers' credit status.
• Resolve invoice and account queries by liaising with Customer Service, Sales and Service teams.
• Maintain an accurate and well-managed sales ledger, including resolving credit balances.
• Manage legal escalations and liquidation cases, working with the Finance Manager on bad debt provisions.
• Produce monthly Accounts Receivable reports and support monthly credit control meetings.
• Assist with interim and year-end external audits, including preparing documentation and supporting sample testing.

What you'll bring

• Proven experience in Sales Ledger, Accounts Receivable and/or Credit Control.
• Strong debt collection experience, with the ability to balance commercial objectives with excellent customer service.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence dealing with internal stakeholders and external customers.
• Strong numerical ability and a high level of accuracy.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
• Good knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel.
• AAT Level 2 or 3, or working towards an AAT qualification, is desirable.
• Understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
• A proactive, dependable and collaborative approach to working within a finance team.
