Financial Accountant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join a International Bank in London. This role is perfectly suited to a qualified accountant who is eager to broaden their exposure across financial, management, and treasury accounting within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will play a pivotal part in producing critical financial information for both internal and external stakeholders, gaining valuable insight into the operations of a bank.
What you'll do:
- Ensure the integrity of the organisation’s general ledger (Oracle), maintaining accurate records and supporting ongoing system transitions.
- Provide precise financial information by applying sound knowledge of accounting basics such as pre-payments, accruals, financial instruments, and revenue recognition principles.
- Prepare month-end management accounts with detailed analysis of performance against budget, including compiling MI packs for ALCO and EXCO and briefing senior finance leaders on major variances.
- Produce daily reports covering liquidity returns, NSFR, capital asset ratios, and large exposures; full training will be provided if you are keen to develop these skills further.
- Collaborate in the production or review of daily profit and loss statements as well as daily balance sheets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and respond promptly to requests from external auditors during annual audits.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process by ensuring all assumptions are clearly documented and maintaining a strong audit trail throughout.
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements under PESM agreements, ensuring compliance at every stage.
- Contribute to corporation tax returns and assist with quarterly corporation tax payments as part of your broader tax responsibilities.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining up-to-date schedules for accruals and prepayments while supporting regulatory reporting activities.
What you bring:
- A recognised accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) demonstrating your technical proficiency in accounting standards and practices.
- Previous experience within financial services—ideally gained through broking or banking—or from auditing complex FS entities within a large practice environment.
- Banking experience would be preferred
- A genuine interest in expanding your knowledge of fixed interest financial instruments or an eagerness to learn if your current understanding is primarily theoretical.
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines while effectively managing multiple priorities from various internal customers.
- Advanced computer literacy with excellent Excel skills for data analysis and PowerPoint proficiency for presenting complex information graphically.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities in English; able to draft clear accounting papers, conduct business reviews, and respond confidently to director queries.
- Familiarity with Oracle Flexcube is desirable but not essential; willingness to adapt quickly to new systems is highly valued.
- Some exposure or understanding of regulatory reporting requirements would be advantageous for this position.
