Creating exciting opportunites

Karen Corder is a Manager of Robert Walters London's Software Engineering and QA team. Initially based in Robert Walters' Shanghai office, Karen progressed rapidly and managed multiple teams before making the move to the UK.

Now, she's working with some of the world's most exciting technology talent and companies in Robert Walters' London office. Being fully immersed in London's tech start-up world, Karen set up a desk to support tech start-ups in London scale up their Software Engineering function. Karen recounts her journey below.

After studying in the UK for 9 years, I moved back to my home country and started out as a graduate at a recruitment company where I was able to grow from intern to consultant in just 18 months.

2013 was the year I was headhunted to work for Robert Walters Shanghai and is where I really found my feet. Over the 6 years I was based there, I successfully managed to build three teams of 15 people based across; Supply Chain & Operations, IT and Manufacturing & Engineering teams. When my time came to move on from the Shanghai Office, I left as Senior Manager.

Today, I work as Principal in London, forging the new and exciting Technology desk recruiting Software Engineering for Tech start-ups within the London Market.

I’m naturally a very passionate person and enjoy the excitement that recruitment brings. I enjoy working with tech talent and companies who are using the latest cutting-edge technology to build innovative products that disrupt industries, and helping them to grow. Working in tech recruitment within the tech start-up world is super exciting because it’s not just about coding, it’s about gaining insight into innovative tech products disrupting multiple industries, such as education and healthcare, and having the ability to make an impact by connecting these businesses with the best talent.

Helping to scale businesses is where my passion lies. I find it really exciting delivering opportunities for tech professionals who want to build exciting products at high-growth companies, and extremely rewarding knowing I’ve been involved in their recruitment process.
