Network Engineer

A leading international technology organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join its Infrastructure team based in Watford. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, support and optimisation of complex enterprise network environments, ensuring highly available, secure and resilient infrastructure that supports critical business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain secure, highly available enterprise network infrastructure across multiple locations.
• Configure, support and optimise Cisco and Palo Alto networking and security technologies.
• Manage enterprise routing, switching and firewall environments.
• Support and maintain MPLS-based WAN infrastructure.
• Work closely with Cyber Security teams to ensure network security controls, vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements are met.
• Lead network infrastructure projects including upgrades, migrations, capacity planning and technology refreshes.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot complex issues and implement proactive improvements.
• Support hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures.
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis and problem management activities.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior members of the engineering team.
• Participate in an on-call support rota.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience working as a Senior Network Engineer within a complex enterprise environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Cisco ASA Firewalls
  • Cisco Routing & Switching
  • HPE Switching
  • WatchGuard Firewalls
  • VMware vSphere
• Strong knowledge of:
  • BGP
  • Multicast
  • PIM
  • MPLS WAN technologies
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud networking across AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Exposure to SD-WAN technologies.
• Knowledge of network automation using Python, Ansible or similar scripting tools.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills across enterprise networking and security environments.
• Experience working within regulated or highly governed environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across international teams.

Desirable

• CCNP or equivalent Cisco certification.
• Palo Alto PCNSE certification.
• WatchGuard certification.
• Experience with network security best practices and compliance frameworks.
• Experience working within large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure environments.
