Director of Data

I'm currently shortlisting for the following Director of Data role with a leading North West based e-commerce client of mine. Competitive Salary on offer with exceptional director level benefits and bonus. Role requires two days onsite per week at my clients offices in Cheshire. Interviews are taking place w/c 08/06 & 15/06

Director of Data is a newly created, senior leadership role that will report directly to the Chief Executive. This is not a maintenance role. It is a builder’s role — for someone who can architect a world-class data platform from a strong but complex starting point, lead a growing internal team, manage key third-party partnerships, and embed a data-first culture across the organisation.

My client wants Head of Data/CDO/Director of Data/Head of Data Architecture level candidates who have leading data engineering and data science/AI/ML teams.

Proven track record leading and delivering large-scale data platform transformations
– Deep expertise in modern data architecture: data vault, data lakehouse, semantic layers, and data mesh principles
– Strong experience with cloud-native data tooling — Microsoft Fabric experience is highly advantageous
– Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing data engineering and analytics teams
– Experience working with AI/ML teams and designing data infrastructure that supports agent-based and generative AI workloads
– Strong stakeholder management and communication skills — able to translate technical complexity into business language
– Experience managing external delivery partners and technology vendors.
