Fabric Data Architect

Microsoft Fabric Data Architect £600 - £700 per day (Outside IR35) Duration: 6 - 9 months Interview Timeline: October 2026 Location: Remote with travel to a North West-based office 1–2 days per month

We are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Fabric Data Architect to spearhead this greenfield transformation. Operating as an independent specialist, you will initially take full ownership of the strategic advisory and foundational discovery phase, before executing the end-to-end architecture design and migration framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Discovery: Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing legacy financial platforms, operational databases, and third-party data streams.
• Blueprint & Strategy: Define the target state data architecture blueprint, governance models, and migration roadmap tailored for Microsoft Fabric.
• Medallion Architecture Design: Build a scalable Data Lakehouse strategy utilizing Delta Lake and the Medallion architecture paradigm (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
• System Migration: Architect and oversee the migration frameworks to seamlessly transition existing business intelligence and data warehouse platforms into Fabric.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with C-suite stakeholders and financial business units to translate commercial requirements into technical pipelines.

Required Skills & Experience

• Microsoft Fabric Expertise: Deep, hands-on architectural experience with the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem (OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Data Factory, and Real-Time Intelligence).
• Enterprise Architecture: Proven track record of delivering end-to-end data blueprints, technical discovery documents, and cloud migration strategies.
• Data Modelling: Mastery of Medallion architecture design, Delta Parquet formatting, Star Schema, and Kimball data warehousing methodologies.
• Industry Context: Prior experience working within Financial Services, Asset Finance, or Banking is highly advantageous (understanding regulatory compliance, financial data structures, and auditing).
• Technical Stack: Strong experience with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, PySpark, and advanced Power BI deployment.
