Manager, Operational Risk – Control Assessment
A leading financial services organisation is seeking six contractors to join its Operational Risk team within the Wealth division. This hiring initiative is driven by increased workload following a recent acquisition, which has resulted in duplication of controls, a backlog in control testing, and broader centralisation efforts. The organisation is looking for individuals who can contribute immediate value.
The role focuses heavily on control assessment, including conducting live walkthroughs of controls to understand their current performance, evidencing methods, and testing approaches. Successful candidates will assess control effectiveness through sample testing and document evidence within the operational risk system. A strong understanding of control frameworks is essential, particularly how controls integrate with RCSA processes and the relationship between inherent and residual risk.
Stakeholder engagement is a key aspect of the role, requiring candidates who are comfortable interacting across all levels of the business, including business units, central teams, and risk functions. Facilitating discussions around both existing and new controls will be a core responsibility, acting as a connector across different areas.
In addition to core assessment work, there is a significant project-driven component focused on control rationalisation. The organisation aims to reduce the number of key controls and improve testing efficiency. Candidates with experience in optimisation, streamlining, or enhancement initiatives will be highly valued. Familiarity with leveraging systems, AI tools, or improving control frameworks and templates will be considered an advantage.
The team welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds such as 1LOD risk, operational risk, internal audit, or business risk, provided they have strong controls experience within financial services. Initial contracts will be for six months with potential extensions and opportunities for permanent roles longer term. The recruitment process involves two stages, with positions based in London or Edinburgh. There is an expectation to work onsite four days per week.
Robert Walters Operations Limited is an employment business and employment agency and welcomes applications from all candidates
