NPI Project Engineer

A leading manufacturing organisation in Blackburn is recruiting for an NPI Project Engineer to play a pivotal role in the developmental phases of new projects. What you'll do:
As a New Product Introduction Project Engineer, you will be at the heart of advancing new products through their developmental stages. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:
- Coordinating all development-phase activities required to advance new products through the NPI process, maintaining alignment with company standards.
- Lead Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to promote best practices and CI.
- Maintain and prioritise the development backlog by clearly defining tasks, sequencing them according to project objectives, and tracking progress against milestones.
- Monitor sprint progress closely, identify risks or delays early on, escalate issues appropriately, and ensure timely delivery of development milestones.
- Serve as the central point of co-ordination for engineering tasks during each sprint cycle, facilitating clear communication of updates to stakeholders across departments.
- Support prototype and sample production by ensuring all development deliverables, documentation, and updates are complete, accurate, and approved before handover.
- Define and execute validation plans including SOPs, ITPs, PFMEAs, Control Plans and Risk Assessments to guarantee compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards.
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for any issues identified during prototype or sample production phases to maintain high quality standards.
- Utilise PLM systems, ERP tools, MS Project/Planner and Lean manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency and predictability in engineering delivery.
What you bring:
To excel as a NPI Project Engineer, you’ll bring substantial experience gained from working on complex projects within a manufacturing or engineering environment. Key areas of applications that will be reviewed and discussed at interview stage are:
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban, with demonstrable experience applying these methodologies in engineering settings.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities coupled with the capacity to navigate ambiguity effectively when faced with complex challenges.
- Outstanding communication skills enabling you to manage stakeholder relationships while providing clear progress updates.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline is preferred but not mandatory if equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
- Certification in Agile or Scrum methodologies would be advantageous for candidates looking to further their expertise in project management practices.
- Experience using PLM systems, MS Project/Planner and familiarity with ERP tools.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles along with CI methodologies.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately to ensure technical inputs meet required standards throughout development phases.
