Conflicts & Risk Counsel

Save job

A leading global law firm is seeking a qualified solicitor to join its Legal Department in London as a Risk and Conflicts Counsel. This hybrid position offers the unique opportunity to combine conflicts clearance responsibilities with broader legal risk management, matter support, and departmental projects.

As Risk and Conflicts Counsel based in London, you will be immersed in a multifaceted role that combines critical conflicts clearance duties with wider legal risk management responsibilities. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with partners and senior lawyers to assess potential conflicts arising from new matters, ensuring that all issues are resolved efficiently through well-coordinated discussions.

What you'll do:

  • Assess and resolve potential conflicts identified in conflicts reports by handling straightforward issues independently while escalating more complex matters appropriately to senior colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with partners, senior in-house lawyers, and the Conflicts Team to ensure timely, practical, and well-reasoned decisions regarding matter acceptance.
  • Help manage the conflicts clearance process efficiently by coordinating information flow and facilitating discussions needed to reach resolutions.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the firm's conflicts processes, systems, and related information-barrier tools to support effective decision-making.
  • Support in-house lawyers on delegated assignments by reviewing agreements and analysing emerging legal or ethical issues relevant to ongoing matters.
  • Conduct research into legal issues and prepare initial recommendations or proposed strategies aimed at mitigating legal, ethical, and professional risks within the firm.
  • Prepare first drafts of training materials, guidance documents, and internal policies relating to legal risk management for use across the Legal Department.
  • Contribute to Legal Department initiatives and larger-scale projects including those related to artificial intelligence tools designed to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Provide practical project management support to help move departmental assignments forward by tracking progress and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Engage proactively with learning opportunities to build broader advisory experience using conflicts work as a foundation for future growth.

What you bring:

  • Qualified solicitor with 1-4 years post-qualification experience gained within a reputable law firm setting.
  • A background in litigation is preferred as it provides valuable insight into dispute resolution processes relevant to the firm's focus areas.
  • Prior experience in conflicts or law firm risk management would be helpful but is not required; willingness to learn foundational processes is essential.
  • Demonstrated strength in legal analysis, sound judgement, and written communication skills necessary for preparing clear recommendations.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach enables you to respond effectively to changing priorities within a varied workload environment.
  • Proactive attitude towards seeking out additional assignments coupled with enthusiasm for continuous learning opportunities within the department.
  • Willingness to learn conflicts processes and technology from the ground up including process-driven aspects of the work.
  • Strong technological aptitude combined with genuine interest in developing proficiency across systems such as conflicts databases, iManage, network drives, information-barrier tools, 3E software, and responsible exploration of AI tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels while maintaining sensitivity towards diverse perspectives within an inclusive workplace.
  • Genuine interest in leveraging conflicts work as a foundation for building broader legal risk-management and advisory skills.
