What you'll do:

  • Developing and maintaining internal relationships across practice teams and business services to deliver on risk project goals while fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • Creating, updating, and refining risk management policies, procedures, and guidance notes to ensure the firm operates within legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Managing daily queries related to risk management areas via the team inbox, providing timely support across the business.
  • Assisting colleagues in business services teams with general risk management issues by offering practical advice and solutions.
  • Reviewing and negotiating supplier agreements including supporting business services teams in onboarding new technology providers.
  • Supporting data protection compliance efforts by handling subject access requests and managing data breaches efficiently.
  • Reviewing and advising on outside counsel terms as well as client-requested edits to the firm's Standard Terms of Business.
  • Providing support globally to fee earners on ad hoc risk-related queries and assisting with professional conduct issues as they arise.
  • Delivering face-to-face and virtual training sessions on risk-related topics to relevant practice groups and business services teams; raising awareness among partners and employees which may require occasional travel to overseas offices.
  • Contributing to cross-functional projects including global development initiatives by sharing expertise in risk management.
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments in the risk and compliance sector for international offices; ensuring fee earners are kept up-to-date with significant changes.
  • Serving as a point of escalation for complex conflict of interest matters and financial sanctions issues within the Business Acceptance team.

What you bring:

  • Qualified solicitor with at least 3 years post-qualification experience gained within a global or City law firm's internal risk or general counsel department.
  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts with precision and clarity.
  • Working knowledge of statutory and regulatory regimes including UK GDPR, SRA Standards & Regulations, UK Bribery Act 2010, Market Abuse laws, Insider Trading regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines consistently alongside strong organisational skills such as prioritisation; able to make business-critical decisions responsibly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective liaison between lawyers and business services groups at all levels of seniority.
  • Effective communication abilities including presentation skills; capable of influencing stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Experience managing trainees or less experienced team members by providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Ability to understand expectations of different stakeholder groups; adept at managing their requirements through frequent communication across relevant teams.
  • Skill in writing clear, accurate practical guidance notes as well as precedents for use throughout the firm.
  • Comfortable delivering training on various topics across multiple departments; able to adapt content for diverse audiences.
