Save job

A leading global law firm is seeking a Senior Financial Crime Advisor to join their General Counsel and Risk team in London. This permanent, full-time position offers you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping financial crime policy and advisory services.

  • You will have the chance to influence strategic projects and initiatives related to AML/CTF reforms, ensuring policies remain robust and aligned with regulatory changes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • The firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion means you will be part of a respectful workplace where your unique perspective is valued, contributing directly to sustained high performance.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements, continuous professional development through training opportunities, and generous pension contributions as part of a comprehensive benefits package.

What you'll do:

  • Provide day-to-day financial crime advisory support to various practice groups and business units on AML/CTF and sanctions compliance matters, ensuring all advice is accurate and timely.
  • Act as an escalation point for sanctions-related issues by conducting legal analysis and advising on the application of UK, US, EU, and Australian sanctions regimes.
  • Assist in analysing and managing financial crime risks associated with new business ventures and client onboarding processes, ensuring thorough risk assessment protocols are followed.
  • Serve as the escalation point for unusual activity reports and complex referrals, applying your expertise to resolve challenging cases efficiently.
  • Drive key projects and contribute to strategic initiatives related to AML/CTF reforms by supporting the development and implementation of relevant policies, controls, and procedures.
  • Coordinate stakeholder consultation processes and deliver timely policy refreshes that are aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready records of decisions, approvals, overrides, incidents, and remediation actions to ensure transparency and accountability within the department.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and resolution of sanctions-related incidents by liaising with senior stakeholders and coordinating appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and gap analyses to identify potential financial crime risks within the organisation’s operations.
  • Develop remediation plans and controls to manage identified risks effectively while supporting investigations into financial crime incidents including post-incident policy reviews.

What you bring:

  • A degree-level qualification coupled with at least four years’ experience working within a regulated financial crime environment is essential for this role.
  • Technical expertise in applicable financial crime regulations including AML/CTF legislation across UK, US, EU, and Australian jurisdictions is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of international sanctions regimes such as OFSI (UK), OFAC (US), EU sanctions frameworks, DFAT (Australia), along with understanding regulatory expectations is vital.
  • An ability to handle complex confidential matters with total discretion ensures sensitive information is managed appropriately at all times.
  • Excellent research skills combined with strong analytical capabilities enable you to assess risks accurately and provide well-founded recommendations.
  • Good commercial awareness allows you to contextualise advice within broader organisational goals while balancing competing priorities effectively.
  • Outstanding attention to detail ensures accuracy in documentation preparation for audits or regulatory enquiries.
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently so that multiple tasks can be managed simultaneously without compromising quality or deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills facilitate clear advice delivery while written skills ensure concise documentation; face-to-face interactions build trust among stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work well under pressure enables you to meet tight deadlines during critical incidents or regulatory responses.
