Risk Lawyer (Claims and complaints)
As a Risk Lawyer in this esteemed legal team based in London, you will play a pivotal role in managing risk-related matters across a diverse portfolio of client work. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with fee earners, senior risk professionals, insurers, external law firms, and regulatory bodies to ensure that all claims, complaints, and potential issues are handled promptly and thoroughly.
Role responsibilities:
- Consider internal notifications of potential claims or circumstances by reviewing relevant matter files and liaising with fee earners alongside senior members of the Risk and Compliance team.
- Produce comprehensive summaries of matters under review and communicate effectively with insurers and legal advisors as required to ensure all parties are informed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date schedules of all live notifications and claims matters to support effective case management.
- Act as a key point of contact for insurers and external law firms regarding notified matters in close collaboration with Claims Partners and senior risk personnel.
- Review formal complaints by examining relevant files, liaising with fee earners, drafting responses, and coordinating with senior colleagues to agree on firm-wide responses.
- Ensure all complaints are addressed within regulatory timescales while maintaining detailed records of live complaint cases.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Legal Ombudsman or SRA when necessary to resolve complaints efficiently and professionally.
- Contribute to management reporting by reviewing claims and complaints data with senior team members and supporting ongoing training within practice teams.
- Assist in considering debt matters where potential claims or conduct issues have arisen by preparing summaries for external recovery partners as needed.
- Support annual insurance policy renewal processes by preparing detailed summaries of live claims, key exposures, and training activities undertaken by the firm.
Role requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in risk management or compliance within a legal or professional services environment is essential for success in this position.
- Qualified lawyer with experience dealing with complaints, claims or professional indemnity matters.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills enable you to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels as well as external stakeholders such as insurers or regulators.
- Strong interpersonal abilities allow you to build positive relationships across teams while handling sensitive matters with discretion.
- Outstanding organisational skills ensure you can manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
