A prestigious law firm is seeking a Serious Injury Senior Associate to join their highly regarded Insurance Disputes team in Birmingham. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-value EL and PL claims, including catastrophic injury cases arising from industrial accidents. You will be part of a team that values collaboration, inclusivity, and professional growth, with access to flexible working arrangements and a supportive environment. The firm is renowned for its commitment to equality, diversity, and providing tailored support for every team member. If you are passionate about personal injury litigation and thrive in a communal setting where your expertise is valued and nurtured, this is an exceptional opportunity to advance your career.

What you'll do:

  • Manage your own caseload of employer’s liability (EL) and public liability (PL) claims, including those valued well into the Multi Track, ensuring each case receives thorough attention and strategic direction.
  • Handle catastrophic injury claims primarily arising from industrial accidents, assisting senior team members on these complex matters to deliver outstanding results for clients.
  • Act for direct corporate clients as well as insurers of commercial entities and intermediaries acting as third party administrators to underwriters of commercial and combined risks.
  • Supervise junior lawyers including trainees and paralegals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their development within the team.
  • Participate actively in team marketing events and deliver client seminars to enhance the profile of the service line and build strong client relationships.
  • Utilise excellent written English skills for drafting legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and advice notes with precision and clarity.
  • Apply advocacy skills in court hearings or settlement meetings as required by the nature of the cases handled.
  • Demonstrate effective time and file management skills to ensure all deadlines are met and files are maintained in accordance with best practice standards.
  • Build good working relationships with clients and potential clients through attentive communication, empathy, and responsiveness to their needs.
  • Support partners with business development initiatives by contributing ideas, attending networking events, and helping grow the client base.

What you bring:

  • Extensive experience in defendant personal injury litigation (4+PQE) with proven ability to manage complex EL and PL claims independently from inception through resolution.
  • Excellent written English skills demonstrated through precise drafting of legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and advice notes.
  • Advocacy skills suitable for representing clients at court hearings or settlement meetings related to personal injury disputes.
  • Self-starting attitude complemented by common sense and initiative when approaching new challenges or tasks within litigation processes.
  • Strong time management abilities paired with effective file management practices that ensure compliance with best practice standards.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with clients through empathetic communication and responsive service delivery.
  • Proficient research skills including use of online information sources to inform case strategy or support legal arguments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to work collaboratively within teams while influencing or persuading others constructively.
  • Experience supervising junior lawyers such as trainees or paralegals by providing mentorship that encourages their growth within the firm.
  • Interest in supporting partners with business development activities by contributing ideas or participating in networking events.
