Employment Contract Lawyer
A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Contract Lawyer to join their expanding Employment team, based in London.
This role offers the chance to work on high-quality, varied employment matters for well-known clients across retail, public, and financial services sectors.
What you'll do:
As an Employment Contract Lawyer, you will play a pivotal role within the national Employment team by providing expert legal advice on a wide range of workplace matters. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve supporting employers through complex issues such as disciplinaries, grievances, restructuring processes, and redundancies. You will take the lead on Employment Tribunal claims—primarily representing Respondents—and deliver tailored legal support for TUPE matters as well as corporate deals. Drafting key employment documents including contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, staff handbooks, and settlement agreements will be central to your remit. You will collaborate closely with Partners and colleagues across the UK to ensure consistent service delivery while maintaining strong client relationships through attentive communication and commercial awareness. Your commitment to nurturing junior team members will help foster a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Success in this role requires balancing multiple priorities efficiently while contributing positively to business development efforts and participating in client training initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance to employers on workplace issues such as disciplinaries, grievances, restructuring, and redundancies by applying your deep understanding of employment law.
- Lead Employment Tribunal claims predominantly acting for Respondents, ensuring thorough preparation and effective representation throughout proceedings.
- Deliver comprehensive employment law support in TUPE matters, corporate transactions, outsourcing contracts, contract drafting, and client training sessions.
- Draft contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, staff handbooks, settlement agreements, and other employment-related documentation with precision and attention to detail.
- Collaborate closely with Partners and the wider national Employment team to ensure seamless delivery of legal services across jurisdictions.
- Maintain strong client relationships by developing a deep understanding of their business needs and acting in their best interests at all times.
- Contribute actively to the development of junior team members through mentoring and sharing knowledge within the collaborative team environment.
- Support business development initiatives by identifying opportunities for growth and nurturing existing client connections.
- Manage workloads efficiently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment that values responsiveness and reliability.
- Participate in client training programmes to enhance understanding of employment law issues among stakeholders.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Employment Contract Lawyer position brings substantial experience from working within an established employment law team. Your proven track record includes handling complex workplace issues such as disciplinaries or restructurings with sensitivity and professionalism. You possess excellent interpersonal skills that foster trust among clients while enabling effective collaboration with colleagues across different locations. Your commercial acumen ensures that legal advice aligns closely with clients’ strategic goals. In addition to technical expertise in drafting various employment documents—from contracts to settlement agreements—you demonstrate reliability when managing competing priorities under time constraints. Your commitment extends beyond individual performance; you actively contribute to the communal success of the team by mentoring junior members and sharing insights generously. Experience with TUPE matters or corporate deals further enhances your suitability for this role but is not mandatory if you show enthusiasm for learning new areas.
- You are a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years PQE gained within an employment law team.
- Your analytical skills enable you to assess complex workplace issues thoughtfully and provide clear guidance to clients.
- Excellent communication abilities allow you to explain legal concepts effectively both verbally and in writing when dealing with clients or colleagues.
- Strong organisational skills help you manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- You demonstrate commercial awareness by understanding how legal advice impacts clients’ broader business objectives.
- Experience in business development activities equips you to identify new opportunities for growth within existing client relationships.
- You have proven ability to draft detailed contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, staff handbooks, settlement agreements, and related documentation accurately.
- Your collaborative approach means you work well within teams—sharing knowledge generously and supporting junior colleagues’ development.
- You are self-motivated with the capacity to manage workloads independently yet remain responsive within a communal environment.
- Exposure to TUPE matters or corporate transactions is advantageous but not essential; willingness to learn is highly valued.
