A leading global financial institution is seeking an Assistant Vice President for their Trade Finance Middle Office in London. What you'll do:


As an Assistant Vice President Trade Finance Middle Office based in London, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the operational aspects of trade finance activities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve reviewing key documentation to facilitate efficient deal processing, maintaining accurate records within internal systems, assessing client requests for compliance with facility terms, and liaising closely with stakeholders across multiple departments. You will be instrumental in monitoring exposures within the facility portfolio while prioritising communications that impact client satisfaction. By developing deep familiarity with individual client processes, you will contribute significantly to enhancing the overall client experience. Your technical expertise will be called upon regularly as you provide operational support across EMEA, ensuring that all balances are reconciled accurately between various systems. Success in this role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service in every interaction.

  • Conduct thorough reviews of term sheets, credit applications, and facility documentation to ensure smooth deal processing without unnecessary delays.
  • Create and maintain facilities and limits within internal systems such as TRAC, OVS, and relevant databases to ensure accurate operational control.
  • Assess client drawdown requests meticulously to confirm transactions align with approved facility terms, providing administrative support across commodity and non-commodity products as required.
  • Engage daily with stakeholders including clients, relationship managers, product managers, and operational units to foster effective communication and ensure seamless operations.
  • Monitor exposures handled by the Trade Finance Middle Office under the current facility portfolio on a daily basis, maintaining strict control over risk management processes.
  • Prioritise inward communications based on subject matter importance with an emphasis on delivering exceptional client service.
  • Develop familiarity with individual processes and business flows for each client to enhance client experience and facilitate knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Provide technical and operational assistance to all stakeholders across EMEA, ensuring queries are resolved efficiently and accurately.
  • Monitor balances between the bank’s accounting system and exposure management tools for all allocated or monitored limits to retain precise records of exposure.
  • Ensure reporting from internal systems correctly reflects exposure relative to facilities under control, reconciling control systems with accounting platforms at appropriate intervals.


What you bring:

  • Substantial experience working within a trade finance-related control environment is essential for this position.
  • Previous experience operating within a control function focused on trade finance is required to ensure effective performance.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel is preferred as it will aid in managing data efficiently across multiple platforms.
  • Minimum GSE (or equivalent) qualification in core academic subjects is necessary; A Level (or equivalent) qualifications are advantageous.
  • Additional language skills are considered beneficial for supporting diverse stakeholders across EMEA.
  • Excellent communication skills are vital for engaging effectively with clients and colleagues alike.
  • A proactive approach combined with the ability to operate responsively ensures tasks are prioritised appropriately according to urgency.
