An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Senior Sanctions Advisory specialist to join a leading financial institution in a high-profile, senior advisory capacity.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sanctions professional to take on a position of significant responsibility, advising on complex sanctions matters, influencing strategic risk decisions and engaging with senior business and risk stakeholders. The role offers the opportunity to operate at a senior leadership level, including deputising for the Head of Sanctions and leading a small team.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted sanctions subject matter expert, providing clear, commercially informed advice while supporting the effective management of sanctions risk across the business.

Key Responsibilities, but not limited to

• Provide expert advice on complex sanctions matters involving clients, transactions and business activities across relevant international sanctions regimes.
• Act as a senior escalation point for high-risk sanctions issues, including complex client relationships, KYC assessments, permitted activities and risk mitigation strategies.
• Advise business and risk stakeholders on sanctions risk management, policy interpretation, control effectiveness and regulatory developments.
• Support regulatory reporting, sanctions breach assessments and engagement with relevant regulatory authorities.
• Contribute to sanctions policies, control frameworks and management information, identifying emerging risks and potential sanctions circumvention typologies.
• Represent the Sanctions function at senior governance forums and contribute to regulatory, audit and business initiatives.

The successful candidate will have significant sanctions advisory experience within a major financial institution or similarly complex regulated environment, together with strong technical knowledge of UK, EU and relevant international sanctions legislation and regulatory requirements. Proven experience advising on complex sanctions matters, high-risk clients and transactions, excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior business and risk leaders, strong judgement, analytical capability and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, have the credibility and technical expertise to operate at a senior leadership level and provide guidance on complex, high-impact decisions.
