Interim CFO

We’re seeking an experienced Interim Chief Financial Officer to shape the financial future of a forward-thinking national organisation supporting essential services in an increasingly digital world. As Interim CFO, you’ll lead the organisation’s financial strategy, ensuring resources are managed effectively, governance remains robust and financial decisions support long-term sustainability.

Working closely with senior leaders and key stakeholders, you’ll provide trusted financial insight, challenge established thinking and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and deliver value for money.

You’ll also lead a talented finance team, oversee financial planning and reporting, and play a pivotal role in shaping organisational strategy and delivering change.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement financial strategies that support organisational priorities and long-term sustainability.
• Lead, motivate and develop a multi-skilled finance team, fostering collaboration, accountability and high performance.
• Oversee short-, medium- and long-term financial planning to support effective resource allocation and informed decision-making.
• Maintain robust financial controls, accurate records and compliance with relevant regulatory and reporting requirements.
• Oversee the preparation of annual accounts for external audit, ensuring accuracy, transparency and regulatory compliance.
• Provide clear, credible financial advice to senior leaders and stakeholders on complex issues, risks and opportunities.
• Support organisational change, identify efficiencies and champion best practice to secure value for money.
• Anticipate emerging financial, regulatory and strategic developments, advising senior leaders on their potential impact.

About You

You’ll be a credible, forward-thinking finance leader with a strong track record of operating at senior level in a regulated environment, ideally within the public sector or a similarly complex organisation.

You’ll combine technical financial expertise with the confidence to influence strategic decisions, navigate complex challenges and lead teams through change.

You’ll bring:

• Professional Qualifications: Qualified Accountant status, with membership of a recognised professional accountancy body aligned with International Federation of Accountants standards, alongside a commitment to continuing professional development.
• Strategic Experience: Significant experience in senior financial leadership, with demonstrable influence on corporate strategy and organisational decision-making.
• Financial Expertise: Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting standards, regulatory frameworks, governance and internal controls.
• Leadership and Influence: A proven ability to lead finance teams, build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Analytical Thinking: The ability to assess complex financial issues, manage risk and develop practical, evidence-based solutions.
• Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable advice.
