A property development group in London is seeking an Assistant Accountant for a 9-12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to join a supportive finance team and contribute to the smooth running of accounting operations across approximately 25 entities. With a competitive salary range of £35,000 - £40,000, this role offers you the chance to work in a vibrant central London location, where your skills will be valued and your professional growth encouraged. Responsibilities:

* Maintain the purchase ledger by processing approximately 300-400 invoices each month with accuracy and attention to detail.

* Conduct monthly payment runs ensuring all suppliers are paid promptly and queries are resolved efficiently.

* Perform bank reconciliations across multiple accounts to ensure financial records are up-to-date and reliable.

* Process expense claims using WebExpenses, supporting colleagues with any queries or issues that arise.

* Prepare VAT returns and CIS returns in compliance with statutory requirements, collaborating closely with the finance team.

* Liaise regularly with project teams regarding cost allocations and payment queries, fostering strong inter-departmental relationships.

* Respond to supplier queries in a polite and timely manner, ensuring all concerns are addressed satisfactorily.

* Assist with audit queries by providing relevant documentation and information as requested by auditors.

* Undertake various administrative tasks such as filing, record keeping, and supporting the wider finance function as needed.

* Contribute positively to the team environment by sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues throughout busy periods.

The Ideal Candidate:

* AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT/ACCA qualifications demonstrating your commitment to professional development within accountancy.

* Previous experience in a similar assistant accountant role ideally within a small company environment which has equipped you with practical knowledge of day-to-day finance operations.

* Competence in Microsoft Excel and Word allowing you to manage spreadsheets and documents efficiently for reporting purposes.

* Familiarity with Sage 200 software enabling you to process transactions accurately within the company’s accounting system.

* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally with project teams and externally with suppliers ensuring clarity and understanding.

* A dependable team player who enjoys collaborating with others to achieve shared goals within the finance department.

* Organised approach to work enabling you to handle high volumes of invoices and multiple tasks simultaneously without compromising quality.

* Self-starter attitude showing initiative when tackling new challenges or resolving issues independently while remaining supportive of colleagues.

* Property sector experience is useful but not essential giving you an advantage if you have worked within real estate or construction environments before.

* Willingness to assist with audit queries demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness during key reporting periods.
