Credit Controller

Credit Controller Salary: £35,000 plus commission Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire

Robert Walters is partnering with an established organisation based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, who are looking to recruit a Credit Controller to join their finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys the customer-facing side of credit control, as the role will be heavily focused on telephone-based debt collection, building customer relationships and driving timely payments. The business is keen to embrace AI and automation, with a focus on streamlining processes and reducing manual administration. They're looking for someone who is tech-savvy, proactive and interested in finding smarter ways of working. Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities:

• Proactively contact customers by phone and email to chase outstanding debt.
• Build strong customer relationships and resolve payment queries.
• Reduce debtor days and overdue balances.
• Agree payment plans and follow up on commitments.
• Monitor customer accounts, credit limits and potential risks.
• Liaise with internal teams, insurers and solicitors where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation and more efficient ways of working.

About you:

• Previous experience in credit control or accounts receivable.
• Confident communicator who enjoys speaking with customers and negotiating payments.
• Proactive, organised and commercially minded.
• Tech-savvy, with an interest in AI, automation and process improvement.
• Experience with Excel and accounting systems such as Sage Intacct or similar.
• Able to work independently and take ownership of customer accounts.
