Accounts Senior

Our client is a chartered accountancy firm looking for an Accounts Senior to join their team, looking after a portfolio of clients. Recent experience in practice is essential. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in the office, and the salary is negotiable depending on experience.

What you'll do:

• Prepare year-end statutory accounts and supporting working papers for a wide range of clients, including more complex assignments as appropriate to your experience.
• Compile corporation tax computations and returns while assisting with personal tax returns for review by senior colleagues.
• Undertake bookkeeping tasks, prepare VAT returns and contribute to management accounts work as required by client needs.
• Liaise directly with clients to obtain information, resolve queries efficiently and ensure smooth progress of assignments.
• Support managers and portfolio holders in planning, monitoring and completing client compliance assignments within agreed deadlines.
• Review straightforward accounts or bookkeeping work prepared by less experienced colleagues where your experience allows.
• Coach, support and share knowledge with trainees and junior team members to foster their development.
• Maintain accurate working papers alongside high standards of technical quality, attention to detail and exceptional client service.
• Collaborate with colleagues across different office locations to develop awareness of wider services available to clients.
• Contribute actively to a positive, inclusive team environment while identifying opportunities to improve ways of working.

What you bring:

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice is essential for this role as it ensures you are familiar with industry standards and client expectations.
• Part-qualified ACA or ACCA status or AAT qualification or qualified by experience demonstrates your commitment to professional development.
• Practical experience preparing accounts along with supporting working papers for client review is vital for success in this position.
• A solid understanding of corporation tax compliance processes combined with willingness to develop further across both corporate and personal tax areas is highly valued.
• Strong organisational skills paired with attention to detail enable you to manage competing deadlines effectively while maintaining accuracy.
• Confident written and verbal communication skills allow you to interact professionally with clients and colleagues alike.
• Ability to work collaboratively within teams while taking ownership of assigned tasks shows your dependability and responsiveness.
• Experience preparing VAT returns or undertaking bookkeeping/management accounts work is desirable but not mandatory.
• Exposure to reviewing junior colleagues’ work or supporting trainee development adds value if you have prior mentoring experience.
• An interest in continuing professional study or progressing into more senior roles reflects your enthusiasm for ongoing learning.
