What you'll do:
* Support the Director of Risk & Compliance in developing, implementing, and continuously improving robust compliance frameworks and controls tailored to the evolving needs of the firm.
* Conduct thorough Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Know Your Client (KYC) checks on a diverse client base, including those in higher-risk sectors, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
* Contribute actively to risk assessments by identifying potential areas of concern and helping shape the firm's risk appetite profile in line with best practice standards.
* Draft, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to ensure they remain current with changes in legislation and regulatory expectations.
* Act as a trusted deputy to the Director of Risk & Compliance by providing expert guidance to colleagues at all levels within the team.
* Supervise, mentor, and support junior members of the Risk & Compliance Team, fostering their professional growth through nurturing leadership.
* Deliver engaging training sessions across the firm to enhance awareness and observance of compliance policies and procedures among all staff.
* Lead key projects that drive continuous improvement initiatives within the compliance function while supporting strategic business objectives.
* Collaborate closely with stakeholders across departments to ensure seamless integration of compliance processes into daily operations.
* Respond proactively to changes in the regulatory landscape by recommending practical solutions that enable continued business success.
What you bring:
* Significant experience working within a compliance function at a UK law firm, ideally gained over at least five years
* Comprehensive understanding of SRA Standards & Regulations as well as data protection/cyber security requirements relevant to legal services providers.
* Proven track record handling Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Know Your Client (KYC) processes, including onboarding high-risk clients and making Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) when necessary.
* Demonstrated ability to devise, implement, update, and monitor effective compliance policies, controls, procedures, and processes aligned with industry best practice.
* Experience delivering clear training sessions on complex regulatory topics tailored for audiences at all levels within an organisation.
* Excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments while nurturing junior team members’ development.
* A calm problem-solving approach combined with strong organisational skills ensures you can manage multiple priorities without compromising quality or accuracy.
