What you'll do:
As HSE Advisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding the well-being of employees while promoting best practices in environmental management. Your daily responsibilities will include ensuring regulatory compliance across all aspects of health and safety legislation relevant to the facility. You will be instrumental in maintaining up-to-date policies aligned with ISO 14001 and 45001. By conducting comprehensive risk assessments and leading committee meetings focused on health, safety, and environmental matters, you’ll foster a culture of shared responsibility. Your expertise will also be called upon to manage training schedules for emergency responders on site as well as oversee routine procedural tests like fire drills or disaster recovery checks. In addition to these core duties, you will champion sustainability initiatives by identifying areas for improvement in waste management processes. Supporting both internal audits and external accreditations forms another key aspect of your role, ensuring that all findings are addressed efficiently. Supervising contractors safely during their time on site further highlights your commitment to creating a secure workplace for everyone involved.
What you bring:
To be considered for this position, you’ll need proven experience from similar roles where you have demonstrated your knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as COSHH alongside practical skills in risk assessment. Your background may include holding recognised qualifications like IOSH or NEBOSH which underpin your technical expertise. Experience managing internal audits, coupled with familiarity around ISO standards, will enable you to maintain rigorous compliance across quality assurance processes. Your interpersonal abilities are equally important; clear communication allows you to share information effectively whether chairing committee meetings or liaising with contractors on site. A keen eye for detail helps you identify opportunities for sustainability improvements while supporting broader facility management objectives such as security protocols or space planning initiatives. - A strong understanding of COSHH regulations alongside experience conducting standard risk assessments within office or research environments is essential for success in this role.
- Holding IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications (preferred) demonstrates your commitment to professional development within health & safety disciplines.
- Training in internal auditing equips you to manage audit schedules effectively while ensuring prompt closure of any identified issues.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001/18001 management systems enables you to maintain compliance across multiple frameworks relevant to quality assurance and environmental stewardship.
- Significant experience working within health & safety roles will allow you to hit the ground running from day one.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills empower you to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels while producing clear documentation for committees or audits.

- Demonstrated ability to manage contractors safely on site, including documentation review, hazard communication, supervision during works execution
