Accountant

Responsibilities:
- Support Financial & Management Accountants in maintaining accurate financial ledgers for multiple entities, ensuring all records are up-to-date and compliant with internal controls.
- Assist with weekly cashbook postings, raising sales invoices (including intercompany recharges), and preparing monthly bank reconciliations by set deadlines.
- Partner closely with site teams to ensure timely completion of bank reconciliations and proactively follow up on any variances identified during inter-company reconciliation processes.
- Generate payments and cash transfers using Barclays.net on a regular basis while monitoring daily bank account balances to identify areas requiring attention such as overdraft usage or low balances.
- Prepare quarterly and annual management account packs in collaboration with senior accountants, supporting the roll forward of financial statements based on year-end accounts.
- Liaise with external auditors during annual audits by providing requested information and coordinating with other finance or business team members as needed.
- Contribute to the preparation of capital call schedules, debt drawdown schedules, payment runs, and ad hoc payments in partnership with Accounts Payable.
- Take responsibility for preparing monthly and quarterly VAT returns, maintaining up-to-date summaries of VAT-registered entities, and communicating effectively with HMRC when required.
- Process CIS reporting accurately while responding promptly to queries from the tax team regarding documentation or compliance matters.
- Champion process improvements within internal controls and systems by assisting in reviews, implementing enhancements to invoicing, expenses management, capital call processes, and management reporting.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Ideally studying towards or holding a part-qualified accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Previous experience working within real estate / property / construction is essential for this role
- Demonstrated ability to manage accounting transactions for multiple inter-related entities within large corporate structures with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including use of PIVOT tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulae for effective data analysis and review.
- Excellent prioritisation skills enabling you to balance project-based activities alongside regular monthly or quarterly cycles generated by your team or line manager.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that allow you to interact confidently across all levels within finance teams and wider business functions.
- Proactive approach in anticipating queries or issues before they arise while presenting thoughtful solutions when challenges occur.
- Experience preparing management accounts packs as well as supporting external audit processes through effective liaison with auditors.
- Ability to interpret entity structure charts, understand fund flows between entities, and appreciate each entity’s role within complex organisational frameworks.
- Track record of identifying efficiencies by challenging established processes or methodologies then implementing changes that improve working practices.
- Collaborative mindset that enables you to work dependably alongside Senior Commercial Controllers, Financial & Management Accountants, Financial Controller, Finance Manager and other business stakeholders.
