Lucas, a recent master's graduate, was looking to kick-start his career in tech and was attracted to the programme by the opportunity to gain practical experience in various tech roles and workplaces, without much prior experience in the field. He was eager to find a career path that aligned with his interests, and our programme offered the support and training to achieve that.
Lucas was particularly drawn to the programme because it enabled him to work for companies he would not normally have been able to access. Through our programme, he was placed into two projects that allowed him to showcase his ability to perform at a high standard.
One of Lucas’ projects through the Accelerate programme was working for an established insurance company. As a data engineer, he made significant contributions to the company's pioneering Gen AI project. This innovative project aimed to enhance the efficiency of call centre agents by providing instant summaries of phone calls using advanced AI technology. Lucas played a pivotal role in developing an Azure function that processed real-time transcriptions of calls, utilising a large language model to generate concise summaries for agents. His technical expertise and dedication were instrumental in the success of this project, leading to his position as the primary engineer responsible for ongoing development, testing, and implementation of new features.
My time as the project's dedicated engineer has allowed me to carry out 4 weekly code releases with no incidents or errors, which has also seen the agents’ feedback and performance metrics improve each week.
Throughout the pilot stage, Lucas demonstrated exceptional skill in monitoring system performance, gathering feedback from agents, and implementing changes to meet their needs. His efforts resulted in four weekly code releases without any incidents, showcasing his ability to maintain high standards of quality and reliability. Lucas contributed to the planning and development of a data pipeline to further analyse project data, highlighting his ability to think strategically about the broader impacts of his work.
Before joining the insurance company, Lucas worked as a Data Analyst, also through the Robert Walters Accelerate programme. In this role, he was tasked with automating company-wide reporting, creating data models, and visualising data through dashboards and reports using Power Bi and Excel. Lucas's ability to quickly adapt to new software and business practices was evident, as he single-handedly managed the project from planning to testing. His initiative to upskill HR team members in Power Bi further showed his commitment to not only achieving technical goals but also empowering others with knowledge.
