A leading RegTech consultancy is seeking an experienced Operational Risk Consultant to join their expanding Client Insight & Analytics Team in London. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of operational risk management, supporting a diverse portfolio of clients within retail and wholesale banking. The organisation has recently undergone significant growth and transformation, offering you the chance to contribute to high-impact projects.

What you'll do:

As an Operational Risk Consultant – Retail Banking, you will be instrumental in managing complex client insight and analytics activities for a growing portfolio of financial services clients. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve scoping data requirements, utilising advanced tools to enhance risk control quality, analysing outcomes, and presenting actionable insights directly to clients. You will collaborate extensively with internal teams—including Intelligence & Analytics, Product, and Engineering—to streamline processes through automation initiatives. By supporting relationship management efforts across all stages of the client journey, you will help nurture long-term partnerships built on trust and shared goals. Your expertise will also be called upon for ad hoc analyses and contributions to business rule development that shape the company’s core data assets. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to communicate complex concepts clearly while fostering co-operative relationships both internally and externally.

  • Manage all aspects of Client Insight & Analytics for select clients, including scoping client data requirements, running quality enhancement tools for risk controls, analysing results, and presenting findings in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Lead client meetings in partnership with Relationship Management colleagues, responding thoughtfully to bespoke requests and ensuring client needs are met throughout the relationship lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with Intelligence & Analytics, Product, and Engineering teams to support automation objectives and improve data processing efficiency across the business.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to data processing exercises such as matching and index building on a prioritised basis as required by the team.
  • Support the consistent application of technical standards to core risk and control content, helping maintain high-quality data assets for clients.
  • Assist in developing business rules that underpin the company’s proprietary data assets, ensuring accuracy and relevance for evolving client needs.
  • Work proactively with other members of the Insight & Analytics team to foster cross-team understanding and communal problem-solving.
  • Engage in ad hoc analysis for clients as needed, providing timely insights that inform decision-making processes within their organisations.
  • Support sales activities by providing expert input on risk control offerings during prospect engagements or client discussions.

What you bring:

Your background as an Operational Risk Consultant – Retail Banking equips you with proven experience navigating complex risk environments within financial services. You bring not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build dependable relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Your attention to detail ensures accuracy across all deliverables while your collaborative approach supports knowledge sharing within cross-functional teams. Familiarity with regulatory expectations allows you to anticipate areas of scrutiny while maintaining compliance across all activities. Your ability to communicate clearly—both verbally and in writing—ensures that even intricate concepts are accessible for diverse audiences. Above all, your commitment to continuous improvement drives you to seek out new ways of enhancing processes through automation or innovative approaches.

  • Extensive experience in operational risk or control roles within financial services environments such as Business Risk & Control Officer or Supervisor positions.
  • Proven ability to engage empathetically with clients at various organisational levels, presenting information effectively while responding considerately to bespoke requests.
  • Demonstrated capacity to thrive in a collaborative fintech setting where flexibility and adaptability are essential for success.
  • Strong organisational skills with impeccable attention to detail; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under time-sensitive conditions without compromising quality.
  • Deep knowledge of risks faced by financial institutions—including market manipulation, unauthorised trading, resilience—and familiarity with non-financial risk management processes such as RCSA or incident management.
  • Experience working with internal audit functions, external auditors, or regulators; understanding areas of regulatory scrutiny targeting governance frameworks (e.g., SMCR).
  • Ability to articulate complex risk control products succinctly while promoting their value proposition during client interactions or sales activities.
  • Commitment to upholding technical standards in data processing exercises—particularly around matching techniques or index building—and contributing positively to communal team goals.
