Structured Credit Risk Manager - Trading/Commodities (London)

Hybrid- 3 days in the office

I have partnered with an energy firm looking for an accomplished Credit Risk Manager with a demonstrable track record in both traditional counterparty credit risk and the structuring of complex energy/commodity transactions. This is a newly created position in Central London, designed for someone eager to move beyond straight financial analysis by embedding themselves in the structuring, negotiation, and risk mitigation of sophisticated trades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed credit applications and conduct in-depth financial analysis, balancing traditional metrics with the unique facets of structured trade and bespoke transactions.

  • Partner directly with Front Office and origination teams to define risk appetite and provide strategic input into the structuring and evaluation of new, non-standard trades.

  • Lead annual credit renewals for a dynamic portfolio, ensuring all structured transactions are appropriately assessed and in line with evolving business needs.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk appetite metrics specifically for structured and innovative deals, ensuring frameworks adapt as the market develops.

  • Build and maintain relationships with external counterparties, closely tracking their credit status—particularly for parties involved in multi-layered or cross-border structures.

  • Evaluate and support the execution of credit-reducing trades and risk mitigation strategies that go beyond the conventional, with a focus on structures that reduce credit exposure without affecting P&L.

  • Contribute to policy development and active participation in risk committees, injecting practical insight from hands-on structuring and portfolio experience.

Who I'm Looking For

  • Significant experience in credit risk within energy trading, commodities, or transaction structuring in banking or insurance.

  • Hands-on involvement in structuring, modelling, or reviewing complex, bespoke, or non-standard trades

  • Analytical expertise with tools such as NPV, risk appetite models, and exposure metrics for structured trades.

  • Excellent communicator, capable of collaborating with commercial, front office, and risk/oversight teams.

  • Proactive, detail-focused, with a commercial mindset and the ability to anticipate risks within innovative deal structures.
