Professionals in the North West (50%) and Yorkshire & Humber (60%) are the least loyal to their employers compared to any other region in the UK, with over half having spent less than a year with their current employer.
This compares with close to a third in The Midlands (36%), North East (39%), London (41%), and Wales (43%) who have been with their employer for less than a year.
The most loyal workforce is in Scotland, where 38% of professionals have been with their current employer for more than 4 years – compared to just 17% in the North West and 20% in Yorkshire & Humber who have been at their employer for the same amount of time.
The findings come from a new report from leading recruiter Robert Walters and job board CV-Library on meeting candidate demands through the job offer.
Chris Poole, Managing Director at Robert Walters states: “Our research found that a third of professionals in the North West (34%), and Yorkshire & Humber (32%) claim that their expectations are not being met by their current employer, with over 60% wanting a better work life balance.
“Its common knowledge that retaining talent is more cost effective than having to re-recruit and so companies and hiring managers really need to tap into what makes employees within their region tick in order to hold onto good employees.”
Half of professionals in the North West (42%) and Yorkshire & Humber (50%) would consider relocating to a different region in search of a better lifestyle. This is considerably more than employees in any other regions, with only 17% in South West, 25% in the North East, and a third in London stating that they would move for this primary reason.
Professionals in the North West stated that work life balance (63%), a competitive salary (61%), flexible working hours (45%), location – close to home or a city (50%), clear development & progression (50%) as the most important factors when looking at a new job opportunity.
Professionals in Yorkshire & Humber stated that work life balance (60%), a competitive salary (54%), location – close to home or a city (53%), flexible working hours (43%), clear development & progression (40%) as the most important factors when looking at a new job opportunity.
Interestingly, over a third of professionals within the North West (38%), and almost half (44%) in Yorkshire & Humber would be open to switching to a contract, interim or temporary position citing more flexibility (27%) as the key reason for this.
