An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join a thriving FMCG food manufacturing environment in Blackburn. This role offers a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, including both days and nights, with the added benefit of no Saturday night shifts and shorter Saturday day shifts, giving you more valuable weekend time than typical 24/7 patterns.

What you'll do:

As a Maintenance Engineer (Electrically Biased), you will play an integral role in maintaining the smooth operation of advanced food manufacturing equipment within a fast-moving environment.

  • Work closely with the shift Team Leader, Factory Manager, and Production Managers to minimise machinery downtime and ensure all preventative maintenance is completed ahead of schedule.
  • Collaborate as part of a small team of multi-disciplined engineers to deliver high-quality service across the site’s production equipment.
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of food processing machinery to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Carry out repairs efficiently, ensuring all actions are thoroughly recorded so that recurring faults can be identified and addressed proactively.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer to guarantee the timely supply of appropriate parts for maintenance tasks.
  • Respond promptly to machine breakdowns with the aim of minimising site downtime and supporting uninterrupted production operations.
  • Continuously develop your technical skills and industry knowledge through hands-on experience and available training resources.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental policies by adhering to established procedures and promoting best practices throughout the facility.
  • Support building maintenance activities as directed by management, ensuring all areas meet required standards for safety and functionality.
  • Mentor and coach fellow engineers within the team, sharing your expertise to foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What you bring:

To excel as a Maintenance Engineer (Electrically Biased), you will bring substantial experience gained from working in demanding FMCG environments where attention to detail is paramount.

  • Demonstrated expertise in both electrical and mechanical aspects of food processing machinery within an FMCG environment is essential for success in this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of process control systems along with proven ability to build electrical control systems from switchgear through software implementation.
  • Completion of an engineering apprenticeship accompanied by relevant qualifications such as BTEC ONC, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Ideally holds IEE qualification up to 18th edition Wiring Regulations or equivalent certification relevant to electrical installations.
  • A solid track record in engineering roles focused on fault-finding, maintenance, and repair within similar manufacturing settings is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, COSHH, GMP principles ensures adherence to industry standards for quality assurance and safety compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with a positive attitude towards collaborative problem-solving are vital for effective teamwork.
  • Experience with PLC fault finding as well as Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) enhances your ability to diagnose issues quickly.
  • Ability to execute preventative maintenance strategies that align with site objectives while driving root cause analysis initiatives for lasting solutions.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality results through continuous improvement efforts supported by sound knowledge of internal health & safety audits.
