Legal Counsel (Litigation)
An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel (Litigation) to join a fast-paced and dynamic in-house legal team in South Yorkshire. This role offers exceptional variety, covering construction matters, commercial and consumer disputes, supply chain contracts, and data protection. The business is a leading property developer with revenue exceeding £340m last year. You'll play a key role in advising the business, working closely with external counsel, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across a range of complex issues.
What You’ll Do:
As Legal Counsel, you'll tackle a diverse range of legal challenges, from construction disputes and commercial negotiations to regulatory compliance and data protection. You’ll manage and mitigate disputes, collaborate with external counsel, and support the business in implementing remedial works under the Building Safety Act. Additionally, you'll review and negotiate commercial contracts, advise on sub-contracts and technical appointments, and help deliver legal and compliance training.
- Provide accurate and timely advice on general construction matters, consumer and commercial disputes, supply chain contracts, and data protection.
- Manage and mitigate any disputes, including entering commercial negotiations with disputing parties.
- Work collaboratively with external counsel in sub-contractor adjudications and commercial disputes.
- Support the business in implementing remedial works required by the Building Safety Act.
- Review and negotiate a variety of the company’s commercial contracts and terms.
- Advise on the formation and termination of sub-contracts, technical appointments, and other external advisers.
- Uphold compliance with Data Protection obligations.
- Assist in the preparation and training on legal and regulatory compliance matters.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this Legal Counsel role will bring excellent communication skills, positive thinking, and a commercial drive. Your strong academic background in law coupled with your ability to work both independently and within multi-disciplinary teams will be crucial for this role. Your ability to prioritise work effectively under strict timelines along with strong IT competency will set you apart. Previous in-house experience is desirable but not mandatory.
