What you'll do:
As a Family Law Associate based in Nottingham, you will:
- Provide empathetic legal advice and support to family law clients on a wide spectrum of issues including financial remedy cases, children matters, cohabitation disputes under TOLATA, as well as drafting cohabitation agreements and pre- or post-nuptial agreements.
- Draft, review, and analyse complex legal documents with meticulous attention to detail while ensuring clarity and accuracy for clients.
- Interpret relevant legal principles accurately and offer clear guidance tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
- Identify potential risks in cases and collaborate with senior colleagues to develop effective solutions that protect clients’ interests.
- Respond promptly and considerately to client enquiries and correspondence, maintaining high standards of client care throughout every interaction.
- Undertake thorough legal research when required to ensure up-to-date knowledge informs all advice given.
- Engage proactively in business development activities to help grow the Family team’s client base and enhance the firm’s reputation locally and nationally.
- Support junior colleagues by providing guidance and supervision under the mentorship of senior team members.
- Maintain accurate time recording practices and contribute towards billing processes to achieve financial targets set by the department.
- Commit to continuous professional development by attending relevant training sessions and keeping abreast of changes in family law.
What you bring:
To excel as a Family Law Associate in this Nottingham-based role, you will bring:
- Qualified Solicitor or MCILEX / FCILEX with demonstrable experience in family law matters including finance cases, children cases, cohabitation/TOLATA disputes, cohabitation agreements, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.
- Proven ability to prioritise workloads effectively while maintaining composure in a busy environment where multiple deadlines must be met.
- Excellent communication skills across all mediums—face-to-face meetings, telephone conversations, written correspondence—with particular sensitivity towards clients experiencing emotional distress.
- A strong sense of empathy combined with professionalism when dealing with confidential or delicate family situations.
- High level of computer literacy enabling efficient use of case management systems and digital resources for research or document preparation.
- Meticulous attention to detail ensuring accuracy in drafting legal documents and managing case files.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting while also demonstrating initiative when required.
- Experience supporting or supervising junior colleagues under the guidance of senior practitioners is desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through participation in training courses or self-directed learning activities related to family law.
- Understanding of billing procedures within a legal practice environment including accurate time recording.
