An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel specialising in Employment Law to join one of the UK’s most respected in-house employment law teams. This role offers you the chance to work at the forefront of legal practice, advising on a diverse range of employment, incentives, and pensions matters within a highly supportive and collaborative environment.

What you'll do:

As Legal Counsel Employment Law you will immerse yourself in a broad spectrum of responsibilities that span advisory work for HR teams through to representing the organisation in complex litigation.

Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with colleagues across departments to address emerging legal challenges—whether drafting critical documentation or delivering insightful training sessions.

This is an opportunity not only to apply your technical expertise but also to contribute meaningfully to an inclusive workplace where your input shapes both immediate outcomes and long-term strategic direction.

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to Human Resources and business units on all aspects of employment, incentives, and pensions matters including recruitment, policy development, diversity initiatives, organisational change programmes, investigations, disputes, compensation structures, benefits schemes, and pension arrangements.
  • Represent the organisation in legal proceedings related to employment law such as litigation cases, arbitration hearings, and regulatory investigations, ensuring robust advocacy and effective resolution of disputes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents including employee contracts, policies, severance agreements, incentive plans, and pension documentation to ensure compliance with current laws and internal standards.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to remain up-to-date with changes in relevant legislation, case law, and regulations that may impact the organisation’s employment practices.
  • Develop and deliver engaging training programmes aimed at educating employees on applicable legal and regulatory requirements relating to employment law, incentives or pension matters.
  • Proactively identify potential risks by monitoring changes in laws, rules and regulations (LRRs), communicating these effectively to stakeholders and ensuring they are reflected within relevant policies and controls.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders including functional leadership teams and senior management to provide strategic guidance on cross-functional legal issues impacting the business.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.

What you bring:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK or equivalent commonwealth jurisdiction with proven post-qualification experience in employment law gained from a leading law firm or substantial in-house role.
  • Demonstrated technical excellence in employment law including significant experience managing litigation cases from inception through resolution.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate sensitively, and explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-specialists at all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience advising on people regulatory technical matters such as regulatory investigations/enforcement actions.
