Buoyant market sees 19% increase in vacancies

advertised vacancies increased

The first quarter of 2015 saw a rise of 19% in the number of advertised jobs year-on-year, according to research from the Robert Walters UK Jobs Index

The number of vacancies advertised online has revealed that demand for professionals has continued to increase in with almost all sectors seeing a rise in job volumes.

“The sharp increase in advertised vacancies reflects growing confidence in the UK economy and employer’s desire to move from the kind of ‘replacement hiring’ that dominated the recession to investing in the best talent for the future” says Colin Loth, Managing Director London & South East, Robert Walters.

Widespread demand

The most dramatic rises in vacancy numbers were in the supply chain and logistics (70%), legal (57%) and secretarial (26%) professions.

The banking and financial services sector also saw healthy growth with 10% more jobs advertised year-on-year, while compliance jobs rose by 13% and risk vacancies by 9%. The growth in these jobs reflects the trend towards steady and consistent growth seen in banking and financial services over the last two years.

The Index also charts the number of vacancies by region, revealing that the North of England has seen a dramatic increase of 28% in the number of jobs advertised, fuelled by companies relocating to the area to take advantage of lower operating costs.

There was also significant growth outside the North, with vacancies up 13.4%
in the Midlands and 20.3% in London and the South East.

“We can also see that the increase in demand for professionals isn’t industry-specific. Virtually all sectors have seen significant growth indicating that these improvements reflect a broader upturn in the UK economy.

“Regional growth, particularly in the North of England, is also an encouraging sign, showing that the improving economic climate is a national phenomenon and certainly not just limited to the capital.”The number of vacancies advertised online has revealed that demand for professionals has continued to increase in with almost all sectors seeing a rise in job volumes.
