The latest research from the Robert Walters UK Jobs Index has revealed that the number of job vacancies in the UK has risen by 21% in the second quarter of 2017.
This increase has reached all levels of seniority and has triggered a demand for strong technical skills and commercial awareness with the financial sector.
Finance professionals have benefitted from growth across a range of industries, with a wide range of employers looking to take on staff in finance teams.
“SMEs and start-up firms across tech and related fields have played a key role in driving this demand, in addition to traditional large employers across banking and finance who are looking for accountants to fill mid and back office roles,” said Marcus Blackburn, Associate Director at Robert Walters.
"Employers are therefore prepared to offer generous salaries and benefits packages to finance professionals who can demonstrate a combination of strong technical and soft skills."
However, at the junior level this has driven demand for professionals who can demonstrate strong knowledge and technical skills of core accountancy functions.
“Hiring managers looking to secure the most highly skilled professionals for these junior roles must also consider what they can offer, with many junior professionals placing a high value on the potential for career progression,” added Marcus Blackburn.
With businesses preparing for a period of transition as Britain negotiates its exit from the EU, senior finance professionals are in high demand to provide strategic input in ensuring long term financial sustainability.
Due to this, the role of finance departments has become significantly broader in recent years, with employers looking for finance professionals to play an active role in providing strategic insight and helping to shape commercial decisions due to this, the required skillset for finance professionals has expanded.
