Derivatives and Securities Associate
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Derivatives and Securities Associate to join a highly respected Investment Bank in London. This role is perfect for someone who has strong experience supporting the full trade lifecycle, from confirmation through to settlement, across a diverse range of products including OTC derivatives, futures, options, and fixed income instruments.
What you'll do:
As a Derivatives and Securities Associate, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the end-to-end lifecycle of complex financial products. Your day-to-day activities will involve managing confirmations and settlements for OTC derivatives, futures, options, fixed income instruments, CD issuance, NDFs, bond agency transactions, corporate CSAs, and regulatory reporting. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across multiple departments as well as external clients to ensure seamless trade processing. Success in this role requires attention to detail when reviewing processes for potential improvements, proactive communication skills for liaising with stakeholders at all levels, and adaptability when taking on new responsibilities or participating in departmental projects.
- Ensure timely confirmation and settlement of OTC derivative products in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Engage in cross-training initiatives to broaden your operational knowledge of systems and trade flows within the department.
- Support departmental ad-hoc tasks as required, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to team objectives.
- Identify potential operational challenges promptly and escalate issues to senior colleagues for swift resolution.
- Adhere strictly to quality management standards while maintaining compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Report any errors or discrepancies immediately to management and actively participate in resolving them efficiently.
- Continuously review existing processes with an eye for improvement, suggesting enhancements where possible to optimise workflow.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, external clients, and head office counterparts via clear verbal updates and concise email correspondence.
- Participate in projects alongside daily operations, contributing insights gained from hands-on experience with various financial products.
What you bring:
To excel as a Derivatives and Securities Associate, you will bring proven experience working within financial services operations—ideally handling the confirmation and settlement of complex derivative products. Familiarity with industry-standard platforms such as Markitwire or Swapagent is highly valued alongside practical knowledge of ISDA documentation processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is expected; additional technical skills such as VBA or macros would further enhance your contribution. Above all else, your commitment to continuous learning—through cross-training or participation in projects—will set you apart as someone eager to grow their career within this specialist area.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both internal teams and external stakeholders across multiple channels.
- Strong numerical aptitude paired with analytical thinking skills essential for accurate trade processing and problem-solving.
- Solid understanding of key financial products such as Markitwire platforms; OTC swaps; IRS; CCS; FRAs; CAP/Floor; ILS; swaptions; Swapagent; swap settlements; rate resets.
- Experience performing checking and approval duties within an operations environment focused on accuracy and compliance.
- Familiarity with ISDA confirmation processes—including drafting or checking documentation—is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Collaborative approach that supports positive team performance while sharing knowledge generously with colleagues.
- Proven capacity for supporting change initiatives by identifying process improvements or innovative solutions within established frameworks.
- High level of computer literacy—especially proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—with VBA or macros experience considered beneficial but not essential.
- Organisational strengths that enable effective time management across competing priorities without compromising quality standards.
