Tax Manager

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Manager to join a highly collaborative and supportive organisation based in Watford, offering a competitive salary of £70,000. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in an environment that values flexibility, wellbeing, and professional growth. As the Tax Manager, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring Corporation Tax and VAT compliance cycles are managed seamlessly.

What you'll do:

In the role of Tax Manager, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for managing both Corporation Tax and VAT compliance cycles. Your day-to-day activities will involve preparing complex tax computations, ensuring accurate payment calculations, submitting returns on time, and maintaining rigorous control frameworks. You will also have the chance to collaborate with various teams across the organisation, participate in projects that require your specialist input, and respond effectively to any HMRC interventions. Success in this position will come from your ability to manage multiple priorities with precision while fostering positive relationships with colleagues at all levels. Your proactive approach will help drive continuous improvement in tax processes while supporting the wider goals of the finance function.

  • Oversee all processes related to Corporation Tax current and deferred tax accounts provision, ensuring accuracy and compliance with external regulations and internal policies.
  • Prepare detailed Corporation Tax computations and returns, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Calculate Corporation Tax payments efficiently, ensuring timely submissions and adherence to statutory deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for VAT return preparation, including managing partial exemption calculations where required.
  • Maintain and develop the Tax Risk Control Framework to ensure robust risk management across all tax-related activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Group tax team as well as other key stakeholders within the business to ensure alignment on tax matters.
  • Lead involvement in any HMRC interventions or queries, providing clear documentation and effective communication throughout the process.
  • Support ad hoc project or transactional work as required by the business, demonstrating adaptability and attention to detail.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in tax processes by identifying areas for enhancement and implementing best practice solutions.

What you bring:

As an ideal candidate for the Tax Manager position, you bring proven technical expertise in both Corporation Tax and VAT gained over several years within a regulated environment. Your qualifications demonstrate your commitment to professional excellence while your hands-on experience ensures you can handle complex compliance cycles confidently. You are known for your attention to detail as well as your ability to communicate clearly with colleagues across different functions. Your interpersonal skills enable you to build strong connections within teams while supporting others through change. A flexible mindset allows you to adapt quickly when new challenges arise—always striving for accuracy without losing sight of broader organisational goals. Experience within asset finance would further enhance your suitability but is not essential; what matters most is your willingness to learn, share knowledge generously, and contribute positively every day.

  • Hold a university degree alongside being a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA), with CTA qualification preferred for added expertise.
  • Demonstrate at least three years’ experience in Corporation Tax preparation or review of returns within a similar environment.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of VAT requirements including Making Tax Digital (MTD), with experience in partial exemption considered advantageous.
  • Showcase experience or understanding of asset finance sector processes as an additional benefit.
  • Display enthusiasm for your work along with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Exhibit flexibility in adapting to changing priorities while maintaining high levels of accuracy in all tasks undertaken.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, building trust through clear explanations and responsive service.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships sensitively and collaboratively to achieve shared objectives within tight deadlines.
