A well-established, high-end brand based in St Albans is looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant to support the day-to-day finance function. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you’ll help ensure smooth operations across purchase and sales ledgers, reconciliations, VAT returns, and credit control.

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a supportive, detail-focused environment and enjoys being part of a close-knit, collaborative team. You’ll be trusted with a wide range of responsibilities and given the chance to develop further in a stable, growing business.

What you'll do:
As an Accounts Assistant, you will become an integral part of the finance function, working closely with the Financial Controller to ensure seamless day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will span across purchase ledger management, sales invoicing, credit control, reconciliation tasks, VAT return preparation, and more. You will be trusted to handle sensitive financial data with precision while communicating effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and clients alike. Your ability to manage multiple priorities—such as processing employee expense claims or assisting with month-end reports—will be key to your success. By contributing your expertise in Excel spreadsheets and demonstrating initiative in problem-solving situations, you will help maintain the high standards expected by this luxury brand. This role offers variety each day as you collaborate with others in a friendly team setting while developing your accounting skills further.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage purchase and sales ledgers

  • Handle supplier invoices and reconciliations

  • Oversee weekly payment runs (BACS)

  • Support with credit control and ad-hoc invoicing

  • Prepare CIS statements and VAT returns

  • Assist with cashflow, month-end processes, and reporting

  • Communicate with suppliers, clients, and internal teams

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong experience in an accounts assistant or finance support role

  • Confident with Excel and ideally familiar with accounting systems like SAP

  • Detail-focused, organised, and proactive

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication skills and a positive, solutions-focused attitude

What you bring:
In this Accounts Assistant position, your proven track record in accounts administration will set you apart. You will bring not only technical proficiency but also warmth in your communications—ensuring every interaction reflects the company’s commitment to service excellence. Your familiarity with core accounting functions such as ledger management, reconciliations, VAT returns, and credit control will allow you to hit the ground running. A keen eye for detail paired with strong organisational skills means you can juggle multiple responsibilities without compromising quality. Your willingness to learn new systems like SAP demonstrates adaptability—a trait valued by this forward-thinking employer. Most importantly, your collaborative nature ensures harmonious teamwork while your initiative helps drive continuous improvement within the finance department.
