We are working with a client who will be needing an Interim Project Accountant to join their organisation at a pivotal moment in their internal controls enhancement journey. This role offers you the chance to play a key part in the successful roll-out of a new audit software system, supporting the business through a critical three-month period leading up to its launch in September.

What you'll do:

As an Interim Project Accountant, you will play a central role in supporting the organisation’s ambitious internal controls enhancement programme. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve close collaboration with both finance colleagues and wider business teams as you help prepare for the rollout of new audit software. You will be responsible for ensuring that all financial processes are fully documented, compliant, and ready for transition. By facilitating training sessions, monitoring compliance, preparing reports, and liaising with external partners, you will ensure that every aspect of the project runs smoothly. Your ability to communicate complex information clearly and your commitment to fostering co-operation across teams will be essential in achieving successful outcomes during this critical phase.

  • Support the finance team in preparing for the launch of new audit software by ensuring all financial data and processes are accurately aligned with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to document, review, and enhance existing internal controls as part of the global enhancement initiative.
  • Assist in developing and implementing project plans, timelines, and deliverables related to the internal controls enhancement project.
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project progress, identifying potential risks or issues and recommending practical solutions.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops for staff on new systems and procedures, ensuring smooth adoption across relevant departments.
  • Monitor compliance with updated internal control frameworks, offering guidance and support to ensure best practices are consistently followed.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation for audit purposes, maintaining clear records of all changes and enhancements made during the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with external consultants or auditors as required, providing timely information and responding to queries regarding project activities.
  • Contribute to post-implementation reviews, gathering feedback from users and helping refine processes for ongoing improvement.

What you bring:

To excel as an Interim Project Accountant in this assignment, you will bring significant experience from previous roles focused on financial transformation or system implementation projects. Your background should include hands-on involvement in enhancing internal controls or supporting audit-related initiatives within sizeable organisations. Your technical expertise will be matched by your ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams, demonstrating sensitivity to different perspectives while guiding others through change. You will have a track record of managing complex workloads efficiently without compromising quality or accuracy.

  • Qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Proven experience as a project accountant or similar role within large-scale transformation projects involving internal controls or audit systems.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and internal control frameworks within complex organisations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working across multiple teams and functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
  • Experience supporting or leading system implementations or process improvements within finance functions.
  • Effective communication skills with an empathetic approach when delivering training or guidance to colleagues at all levels.
  • A dependable attitude towards problem-solving, always seeking practical solutions that benefit both immediate stakeholders and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to produce clear documentation suitable for audit purposes and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • A commitment to knowledge sharing and supporting others’ development within a team environment.
