Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join a thriving finance team based in Manchester. This role offers you the chance to become an integral part of a supportive and knowledgeable group, where your attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will be highly valued. You will enjoy working in a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and provides exposure to a diverse portfolio of businesses. With flexible working opportunities and ongoing training, this position is perfect for someone looking to further their career in finance while making meaningful contributions to a communal success story.

As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day financial processes across several dynamic businesses. Your responsibilities will include processing invoices, reconciling statements, preparing sales invoices, allocating payments, and maintaining detailed financial records using Excel. You will also provide essential support to management accountants and the Financial Director, assisting with journal entries and ad hoc tasks as required. Success in this role comes from your ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team, communicate effectively with both internal colleagues and external partners, and maintain high standards of accuracy at all times. Your efforts will directly contribute to the reliability of financial information used by decision-makers throughout the organisation.

  • Process supplier invoices efficiently, ensuring all accounts payable duties are completed accurately and on time.
  • Resolve queries related to both payables and receivables with a considerate and responsive approach, maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Prepare and send sales invoices promptly, following up on outstanding payments in a polite and persistent manner to ensure timely cash flow.
  • Allocate incoming payments correctly against customer accounts, demonstrating careful attention to detail in all financial transactions.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations, identifying discrepancies and collaborating with colleagues to resolve them swiftly.
  • Complete statement reconciliations for suppliers and customers, supporting the integrity of financial records across the business portfolio.
  • Assist with journal entries as required by management accountants or the Financial Director, ensuring compliance with internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate finance reports using Excel, updating data regularly and sharing insights with the wider team as needed.
  • Provide additional support to management accountants and the Financial Director during busy periods or when special projects arise.
  • Contribute positively to the overall running of the finance function by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and participating in team meetings.

To excel as an Accounts Assistant in this role, you will bring proven experience working within accounts payable and receivable functions—ideally gained over at least two years in a similar setting

Ideally you will have experience in the following areas:

  • At least two years’ experience performing accounts payable duties such as invoice processing, query resolution, and payment runs within a finance team.
  • Proven track record in accounts receivable functions including sending sales invoices, chasing payments courteously, and allocating cash receipts accurately.
  • Familiarity with double entry bookkeeping principles would be advantageous but is not essential for success in this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform bank reconciliations and statement reconciliations with precision and care for detail.
  • Competence in maintaining finance reports using Excel; comfortable handling spreadsheets for data entry, analysis, and reporting purposes.
  • Experience providing support to management accountants or senior finance staff during month-end or project-based activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment focused on shared goals.
  • A responsible attitude towards sensitive financial information coupled with strong organisational skills for managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to learn new systems or processes as required by changes within the business or finance function.
